テレビ東京のオーディション番組『ASAYAN』が行った男性ボーカリストオーディションで選ばれた2人｛堂珍嘉邦（どうちん よしくに、1978年11月17日 - 、身長174cm、血液型：O）、川畑要（かわばた かなめ、1979年1月28日 - 、身長172cm、血液型：A）｝により結成。ユニット名は両者の歌声が“化学反応”を起こし無限のパワーを生み出す、という期待が込められてつけられた。
